Rayman 1 was very hard but at least you had health points (even if that didn't always help very much), meaning it was possible to power through certain hazards. Health points versus shield (or floating heart): Contrary to some I do not think limited lives are an outdated system, although more frequent checkpoints are nice. The triumph is much less intense at the end of a very hard level if you made if with infinite lives. If it had infinite lives like in Origins a lot of the tension and fun would be gone. Rayman 1 was hard especially because of the limited lives. I don't pretend to be absolutely right, In fact I welcome other opinions. Here I'm pitting my experience with Rayman 1 and my experience with Rayman: Origins. That's not the main topic, but I'd like to know if I am not alone with that feeling.
